Weather resistive barriers
Install a weather-resistive barrier (WRB) to any new construction or renovation areas to help keep out moisture that can lead to unhealthy mould and mildew.
WRB is part of the exterior wall and roof systems that protect buildings from water penetration. It performs like a shell for your home so liquid water that penetrates your outer walls and roof can’t get through, yet water vapour can still escape.
For existing homes, check the flashing and drainage of your walls and roof, as signs of water leakage and condensation may not be obvious. Sometimes it can appear as discolouration on plasterboard or new bubbles in old paint. If this occurs, speak with a builder about ways you can fix the damage and potentially add a water-resistive barrier in the area affected.
